LASIK enhancements

Although LASIK surgery has an excellent track record, some people end up choosing to have a second LASIK procedure in the future. Why might someone want to have a LASIK enhancement?

Reasons for LASIK enhancement

There are a few different reasons that someone might choose to have a LASIK enhancement procedure. Some of these include:

What is LASIK enhancement like?

After having the initial LASIK procedure, it’s normal for vision to change over the first few weeks as the eye heals. Your eye doctor will continue to monitor your vision. An enhancement procedure will not be considered until at least three months after the procedure. At this point, if you still don’t have the visual outcome you were hoping for, then you can consider having an enhancement.

The repeat LASIK procedure will be very similar to the initial procedure, with one difference. Rather than having to create a corneal flap using a laser, the surgeon simply lifts the corneal flap that was created during the first surgery. This generally only takes a minute or two. After that, the laser is used in much the same way as during the initial procedure, and the healing process afterwards will be similar.

If several years have passed since your original LASIK surgery, PRK is usually a safer option for a touch up laser vision correction procedure.
